Front End: CSS Styling and Drupal Themeing Engineer at Compucorp (London, UK) (allows remote)

We like to build stuff… sometimes complicated stuff… for Art Galleries, Non-Profits and Charities.

We’re an innovative bootstrapped startup based in London in the UK. We've grown to over 30 staff in the past 2 years based solely on the quality of the work we’ve been producing for our clients and we’re on the lookout for a talented CSS Styling Specialist and Drupal Themer to join our team.

We do things a little differently, basing all our solutions on open source products, having flexible working hours and a real team mentality. Our work covers web design, app development and branding for Charities, Art Galleries and Non-profit organisations across the country. Our clients include Charities such as Wikimedia, Amnesty and Farm Africa, galleries such as the Photographers Gallery and Craft Central but we’ve got a long client list that includes other companies, trade associations and government bodies.

The role will expose you to a really wide range of projects and you can expect to be developing all sorts of web applications, sites and apps for a range of clients. Your principle focus will be in converting complex and challenging designs into responsive pixel perfect themes for the Drupal platform but we also develop other stand alone sites and platforms which will also require your styling expertise. There is also the opportunity to contribute to the design and UX process on a number of fronts and the ideal candidate will help us to achieve the best user experience solutions for our clients.

The ideal candidate will have:

– Excellent HTML and CSS skills including working knowledge of LESS or SASS, Bootstrap or Zurb Foundation and other frameworks etc
– Excellent experience with Drupal themeing (both Drupal 7 and 8 experience a positive)
– Git experience
– Confidence in a PHP based environment

As part a small (but growing) team of 30 you’ll have instant responsibility and an opportunity to learn new skills and explore new technologies.

What were looking for is someone who can grasp concepts quickly, has great attention to detail, and most importantly loves a tech challenge. In short, we’re a team of self confessed geeks who love tinkering and tweaking until something is just right and are looking for someone who thinks and acts like us.

Please note that this is a remote position.

Technical Product Manager - $100k at Crossover () (allows remote)

DevFactory Technical Product Manager - $100k

Are you in a technical role now and have a vision for how things SHOULD be built but lack the influence to change it?

Some of the best Technical Product Managers come from strong technical leaders who decide to make the jump from implementing a product to defining a product. DevFactory is especially suited for you, as we are a By Developers, for Developers focused company.

Are you a great Technical Product Manager looking for the next big thing?

DevFactory is one of the most exciting companies you could imagine for Technical Product Managers. Hard problems, revolutionary technology, and a great team.

One of the best Technical Product Management jobs. Period.

Here are a just a few reasons why:

  • By Developers for Developers: As a Technical Product Manager, you know software development. Youve very likely have had a significant portion of your career in software development. All those times you thought to yourself I would absolutely have created this tool way better... in this role you can.
Define products you would love to use.

  • Iteration, Improvement focused culture: We have a culture that not only enables your success, but strives to always think what better looks like. We view this iterative improvement as a necessity not only from an individual perspective, but as a team. You will be an integral part to improving not only products, but how we deliver products.

  • Career Focus: Candidates have a clear career path to increased compensation and responsibility. As your skills and competencies grow, your scope and area of impact will grow as well.

  • Customer Focus: At DevFactory, how our Customers will actually use our product (the use case), is the primary driver behind every specification. We believe that by centralizing the Use Case, we can focus on what makes our products great for our customers, and unique in the marketplace.

  • Learn and Use Disruptive Tech: Every day you hear about how some new company is applying disruptive technology to a stagnant industry. Wouldnt you like to be working for those innovative companies working on those new industry changing approaches? At Devfactory, this is your chance to be a part of that and both learn and apply these disruptive technologies (such as AI, Machine Learning, Big Data analysis, NLP, PaaS Cloud services) from Open Source, AWS, Google, and others.

  • Work/Life Balance: DevFactory is a fully remote company, with every role being a fully remote role. Simply put, DevFactory provides you with a unique work/life flexibility and the opportunity to work with a global team of top performers in their field.

A bit about DevFactory

The DevFactory culture is rooted in a deep appreciation of software and software development combined with an intense desire to use metrics and objective data to make software development better. We are inspired by the industrial manufacturing revolution that happened over 100 years ago. Jobs were loosely defined, not measured, not specialized, not automated, and the result was terrible quality and productivity. Today manufacturing is dominated by scientific measurement, automation, specialization, and well defined processes - making it very high quality and 100x more productive. We see the same opportunity in large scale software development.

We build systems that help make software and software dev teams better. We measure the quality of code, tests, builds, and architectures at a deep level; finding valuable insights not just surface level coding violations. We mine the history of source control systems to help dev teams find their buggiest parts of code, most productive developers, riskiest classes, etc. We build active systems that evaluate code on every commit and help our customers prevent their software quality from slowly eroding and accumulating expensive technical debt.

If making software better and development teams more productive is something you are passionate about, youll be inspired at DevFactory.

DevFactory is actively hiring candidates for this position through the CrossOver marketplace on Crossover.com. Crossover is one of the most legitimate companies offering high-paying jobs that are 100% remote, work from home. You never have to fight traffic to the office again and you have the freedom to choose when and where you put in your 40 hours to be most effective each week.

Responsibilities of the Role

As a Technical Product Manager, your core responsibility is to take the big ideas from Product Management Leadership and figure out how to break it down into meaningful bite-size chunks for Engineering. Were relying on you to take that large complex release, figure out how it should be functionally broken down, and then defining that very clearly for the development team to go implement. Youll be using your deep technical background to identify the key decisions that need to be made (sometimes the hardest part!), finding the best answer to those questions and then defining both how the product will be implemented, and what you want to see to know that it was implemented correctly.

At DevFactory were Agile. We have 1-2 week sprints that focus on a clear milestone of work in the greater release. As a Technical Product Manager, your primary responsibility is to take the large release level ideas and break it into clear Milestone specifications that the development team can actually build. As you will be the owner for the area, you will be ultimately responsible for reviewing what the engineering team has actually built and making the final call on if it meets exactly what you specified or needs additional work.

Action Verb: DevOps/SysAdmin Engineer (Linux, AWS, Chef, ELK, & more) For Holacracy-Powered 14-Person All-Remote Engineer-Founded IaaS Company

Headquarters: Las Vegas
URL: https://actionverb.com/

Hi! We’re Action Verb.

We build two Infrastructure-as-a-Service Platforms that Engineering and Marketing professionals use to power their products and services.

Our products include BrickFTP, a hosted file sharing service for business, and Vae Platform, a unique web hosting platform with an integrated CMS system.

Our company consists of 12 full time USA-based Engineers, as well as sales and support outposts in Germany, and Latin America. We’re looking to grow our family by adding a new DevOps/SysAdmin Engineer to our team.

Our infrastructure platforms are used by over 2,000 enterprises and SMBs, including Mozilla, Canonical, UPS, DirecTV, GoPro, Marriott, and more.

Here are some statistics about our network:

  • ~100 servers, mostly hosted on AWS
  • 8 AWS regions, as well as multiple colocated hosting providers
  • Hundreds of public IP addresses
  • 300+ HTTPS requests per second
  • 25+ FTP/SFTP/FTPS logins per second
  • 100+ file transfers per second
  • 4,000 log entries per second
  • 150,000+ metrics
  • 99.9% uptime record

We’ve been able to achieve the rare combination of high double-digit annual growth and industry leading profitability.

We do it by aggressively recruiting the absolute best and brightest engineers and structuring our company in a way that makes them want to work here forever.

It’s easy to say, but exceptionally hard to execute. Here’s how we do it.

We are one of the early adopters of Holacracy, a new style of running an organization in a self-organizing manner that draws inspiration from agile software development and lean manufacturing processes.

Rather than hiring people for exactly one job description, we instead look to find well rounded team members with skills in software engineering, design, marketing, sales, and our other needs who are interested in filling multiple roles within the organization.

As a self-organizing team, our people have multiple roles and our role descriptions are regularly updated via small iterations. As their interests change and our needs change, the roles people fill change dynamically over time.

“Most startups believe in iteration of their products. Now they need to apply the same thinking to their organizations.”
– Adam Pisoni, Yammer co-founder & CTO

Learn more about our Holacracy practice.

Holacracy is not unstructured: you’ll have a clear understanding of your current roles and responsibilities, as well as a set of rules and processes for changing those roles and responsibilities in real time.

Even though Holacracy is a lot to learn, we have a great onboarding process and the rest of our team will guide you through your first few months. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend a weeklong official Holacracy training event at our expense.

We also practice Open Book Management, meaning that we share the exact details of our Balance Sheet and P&L Statement with our entire team in real-time, ensuring that our staff has the data they need to treat the business as if it were their own.

Learn more about Open Book Management.

Our team members work from home and choose their own hours, allowing them to make time for family, recreation, vacations, or anything that is important to them.

Every team member gets 10 company-wide holidays per year as well as 20 paid time off days intended to be used for vacations. Go have fun. Don’t work all the time.

Our team members also work hard, are constantly learning, and accomplish a ton for the company in the time that they are working.

Our team spends at least 12 days together face-to-face per year at four quarterly meetings that are hosted all over the country. We try to do these meetings in cities that are fun to visit. In the last few years, we’ve been to Austin, Orlando, Minneapolis, San Diego, Las Vegas, New York City, and Detroit.

As you might expect from a company that is so open, we also post our salary information right here in the job post. We will pay you $100,000 in your first year, plus a great benefits package, and a $2,500 signing bonus to purchase a new computer.

After your first year with Action Verb, we will update your salary based on the value that you have been able to demonstrate for the company. We continue to update salary levels every year. It is possible to reach a pay level of double the starting salary if you come in and absolutely crush it.

We fully pay for your health insurance (exact plan details depend on your state of residence), and we’ll pick up the tab for 50% of your spouse or family if they wish to also join the healthcare plan. We want your family to be healthy.

We recognize that other companies may offer higher initial salary offers or signing bonuses, but at Action Verb, we know that for our ideal candidate, the exact level of pay is just one criteria by which they choose where to work. Our goal is to offer the greatest work environment possible and pay people well enough to make it possible for them to join the team. Come learn our way of working, take on as many roles as you can, and establish yourself as a valuable asset to us. Then after your first year, we’ll re-evaluate your salary and make sure it’s more than fair, given the value you’ve been able to generate for the company.

We are looking for candidates who bring the following skills to the table:

  • Significant experience working with GNU/Linux servers, including a complete understanding of the command line, /proc, services, etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking concepts, including layers, firewalls, DNS, VPN, etc.
  • Proficiency with configuration management tools, such as Chef or Puppet, and fluency with at least one major scripting language.
  • Experience building distributed, failure-resistant architecture, including disaster recovery, backups, failover, etc.
  • Experience with the advanced featured of public cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure (we use AWS).
  • Familarity with large scale monitoring and analysis systems, such as ELK or Splunk (we use ELK).
  • Complete understanding of how to build secure infrastructure and an awareness of common server security vulnerabilities.
  • Ability to manage a large database at scale (we use MySQL).
  • History developing and supporting actual infrastructure that has seen production usage at equal to or greater than our scale. (We talk about our size earlier in the post.)

Most of our best applicants have Computer Science (or similar) degrees from a well-regarded university. Our best applicants also tend to have at least 3-5 years experience in a position with direct responsibility for supporting large production deployments.

We believe that everyone in the company should have programming skills. Our customers are primarily engineers, and in order to relate to them and support our products at the highest possible level, we should all be engineers too. As a Sysadmin/DevOps engineer, you will spend a lot of time writing code here.

We believe that the best Engineers tend to be polyglots with a wide variety of programming language experience. We don’t care whether you specifically know Puppet or Chef, but we look for engineers who are fluent in several programming languages. We want our staff to be adaptable and ready to evolve to what’s next.

We believe that allowing and supporting 100% remote work gives us access to great people we wouldn’t otherwise be able to hire. We tend to hire folks who are later in their careers, which means they usually have their family established somewhere. By offering remote work, we can hire the best people, no matter where they’re located.

We believe that the best way we can acquire top talent is by being an amazing place to work. Work from home, travel with the team, and surround yourself with top tier people at Action Verb. Read about everything we’ve done to make working at Action Verb great.

We believe that building great infrastructure and platform products requires a great internal infrastructure. We have over 150,000 metrics, real-time service monitoring, fully searchable logs, and full configuration management via Chef. We built our own application deployment system.

We believe in using the right tool for the job. Our core DevOps stack includes AWS, Chef, ELK, Grafana, Statsd, Asterisk, Capistrano, MySQL, Redis, Memcached, Zeromq, Jenkins, Github, Honeybadger, and many other exciting open source systems. We don’t want to get stuck in the trap of using a language or a tool just because “that’s how it’s done around here.”

We believe that our DevOps Engineers are the first line of defense when something bad happens. You will be on call 24/7 (except for your 20 days per year of vacation) in case there are performance problems in production. Fortunately, afterhours callouts are rare for us.

We believe in building products that we actually use ourselves. We are our own toughest critics and we put all of our products through their paces every day.

Tell us about what you believe. We only read cover letters in our first screening round, so make sure yours counts. In your cover letter, we’d like you to address the following topics:

  • Why does this opportunity specifically appeal to you?
  • How well do you align with Our Core Beliefs? Is there anything you would add or change?
  • Why would working remotely for Action Verb change your life for the better?
  • Are you familiar with Holacracy? Any questions or concerns?
  • What’s lacking in your current work arrangement that we could improve?
  • What are your philosophies on devops and operations?
  • What does building a great network and server infrastructure look like?
  • How does “the Cloud” fall short and what typically needs to be improved?

Headquarters: Las Vegas

Our company consists of 8 full time USA-based Engineers, as well as sales and support outposts in France, Germany, and Latin America. We’re looking to grow our family by one or two faces.

Our infrastructure platforms are used by over 2,000 enterprises and SMBs, including Mozilla, Canonical, UPS, DirecTV, GoPro, Marriott, and more.

Action Verb: “VP of Marketing” For Holacracy-Powered 14-Person All-Remote SaaS Company

Headquarters: Las Vegas

Our company consists of 12 (soon to be 16) full time USA-based staff, as well as sales and support outposts in France, Germany, and Latin America.

I apologize for the misleading title, beacuse we don’t actually use titles like Vice President, but that’s the type of role we’re looking to hire for here. We’re looking for someone who can take responsibility for the marketing our two SaaS products.

Our infrastructure platforms are used by over 2,000 enterprises and SMBs, including Mozilla, Canonical, UPS, DirecTV, GoPro, Marriott, and more.

We’ve been able to achieve the rare combination of high double-digit annual growth and industry leading profitability.

Rather than hiring people for exactly one job description, we instead look to find well rounded team members with skills in software engineering, design, marketing, sales, and our other needs who are interested in filling multiple roles within the organization.

(That’s why we don’t actually use titles like “VP”.)

As a self-organizing team, our people have multiple roles and our role descriptions are regularly updated via small iterations. As their interests change and our needs change, the roles people fill change dynamically over time.

Our team members also work hard, are constantly learning, and accomplish a ton for the company in the time that they are working.

Our team spends at least 18 days together face-to-face per year at six in-person meetings spread out through the year and hosted all over the country. We try to do these meetings in cities that are fun to visit. In the last few years, we’ve been to Austin, Orlando, Minneapolis, San Diego, Las Vegas, New York City, Detroit, and Fort Lauderdale.

As you might expect from a company that is so open, we also post our salary information right here in the job post. We will pay you $100,000 in your first year, plus a great benefits package, and a $2,500 signing bonus to purchase a new computer.

This position is for marketers who are hands-on. This job will not involve dealing with any third party agencies.

You will be managing our advertising yourself. You will write headlines and body copy. You will design and implement landing pages and funnels.

You will develop lead magnets (such as white papers, PDFs, free tools, and giveaways.)

We are looking for candidates who bring the following skills to the table:

  • Proven track record growing B2B SaaS services using Internet Marketing techniques, preferably in a lead role.
  • Significant experience working with online advertising platforms including Adwords, display networks, Facebook, and RTB systems
  • History of managing online advertising budgets of >$1M per year.
  • Ability to write ad copy, including an understanding of how to write headlines and how to write body copy
  • Comprehensive knowledge of conversion optimization techniques and experience developing, implementing, and analyzing split tests
  • Proficiency with statistics and an ability to understand statistical significance as it applies to tests
  • Experience building diverse campaigns to target potential buyers at various stages of the funnel
  • Familiarity with the advanced features of Google Analytics and other software for analyzing the performance of the individual components of our funnel
  • Ability to build web pages in raw HTML
  • Photoshop experience preferred
  • Experience developing and promoting “lead magnets” such as white papers, free tools, etc.

The experience requirements are firm.

If you have not run a B2B SaaS marketing campaign in the past, do not bother applying. If you have not managed a 7-figure ad budget in the past, do not bother applying.

We believe that everyone in the company should have coding skills. We want everyone here to be able to take their ideas and bring them to life. For a marketer, that means you have to be able to buuld webpages. It doesn’t mean you have to be an expert, but you should be able to implement a landing page that looks good. Adding Javascript tracking code to a page shouldn’t scare you.

We believe that selling to businesses and government entities is very different from selling to consumers. Asking someone to buy a product is a smaller ask than asking that person to become an advocate for that product inside a company that may have a complicated purchasing process. We’re looking for marketers who understand this distinction and have experience empowering leads to become internal advocates for products.

We believe that Sales and Marketing are not the same thing. This is a marketing position, and you will be supported by three full time sales agents who will handle the actual phone and email interactions with our prospects. Of course, we’d love to have you develop sales funnels that are as automated as possible, but I want to be clear that this is a Marketing job, not a Sales job.

We believe that the things Cialdini writes about in Influence really do make a difference. There is art to marketing, but it is mostly a science. The process has been well studied and documented. If you’re the right candidiate for this job, you’ll be well-studied on these matters and already know what to do to take our marketing to the next level.

  • Who are your role models with regard to copywriting and messaging?
  • What does a great paid traffic campaign for a B2B product look like and where do you expect the best traffic to come from?
  • What does a good A/B testing strategy look like?
